ヤマザキマリ（漫画家・随筆家）
1967年東京都出身。
1984年に渡伊。国立フィレンツェ・アカデミア美術学院で、油絵と美術史を専攻。
1997年より漫画家として活動『テルマエ・ロマエ』で第3回マンガ大賞、第14回手塚治虫文化賞短編賞受賞。
著書に『国境のない生き方』（小学館）、『男性論』『ヴィオラ母さん』（文春新書）『パスタ嫌い』（新潮社）『スティーブ・ジョブズ』（講談社）『プリニウス』（とり・みきと共作 新潮社）『オリンピアキュクロス』（集英社）など多数。
エジプト、シリア、ポルトガル、米国を経て現在はイタリアと日本に拠点を置く。
平成27年度芸術選奨文部科学大臣賞受賞。
平成29年イタリア共和国星勲章コメンダトーレ綬章。

Mari Yamazaki （Painter / Graphic Novelist / Essayist)
Mari Yamazaki was born in Tokyo in 1967. She moved to Italy at a young age, in1984, to attend the National Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where she studied art history and oil painting. She debuted as a manga artist in 1997. Between 2003 and 2013 she lived in Syria, Portugal and the United States. She has been based afterwards in Italy and Japan.
In 2010 she won the third edition of the Taisho Manga Award with “Thermae Romae”. In 2015 she won the Tezuka Osamu award as well as the New Face award by the Japanese Ministry of Education; by the same Ministry she received the 2015 Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award. In 2017 she was conferred by Italy’s President of the Republic the rank of Commander of the Order of the Star of Italy (Ordine della Stella d’Italia).
Her recently publications are: "Life without Borders" (Shogakukan), "Viola Mother" (Bunshu Shinsho), "Steve Jobs" (Kodansha, based on "Steve Jobs" by Walter Isaacson), "Gli Artigiani", "Plinius" (Shinchosha, co-written with Miki Tori), and ”Olympia Cucross" (Shueisha). In 2022 her manga “Thermae Romae” was made by Netflix into an animated series released worldwide.
She is Visiting Professor at Tokyo Zokei University.

Mari Yamazaki est née à Tokyo en 1967. Elle s’est déplacée en Italie très jeune, en 1984, pour fréquenter l'Académie nationale des beaux-arts de Florence, où elle a étudié histoire de l'art et peinture à l'huile. Elle a fait ses débuts d'artiste manga en 1997. Entre 2003 et 2013 elle a vécu en Syrie, au Portugal et aux États-Unis. Elle a depuis été basée en Italie et au Japon.
En 2010, elle a remporté la troisième édition du Taisho Manga Award avec « Thermae Romae ». En 2015, elle a gagné le prix Tezuka Osamu ainsi que le prix New Face du ministère japonais de l'Éducation ; par le même ministère, elle a reçu le prix 2015 de la culture, des sports, des sciences et de la technologie. En 2017, elle a reçu du Président de la République italien le grade de Commandeur de l'Ordre de l'Étoile d'Italie (Ordine della Stella d'Italia).
Ses publications récentes sont : "Life without Borders" (Shogakukan), "Viola Mother" (Bunshu Shinsho), "Steve Jobs" (Kodansha, d'après "Steve Jobs" de Walter Isaacson), "Gli Artigiani", "Plinius" ( Shinchosha, co-écrit avec Miki Tori), et "Olympia Cucross" (Shueisha). En 2022, son manga "Thermae Romae" a été transposé par Netflix en une série animée diffusée dans le monde entier.
Elle est professeure invitée auprès de l'Université Tokyo Zokei.

Mari Yamazaki è nata a Tokyo nel 1967. Si trasferisce in Italia in giovane età, nel 1984, per frequentare l'Accademia Nazionale di Belle Arti di Firenze, dove studia storia dell'arte e pittura a olio. Debutta come mangaka nel 1997. Tra il 2003 e il 2013 vive in Siria, Portogallo e successivamente Stati Uniti. Si muove oggi tra Italia e Giappone.
Nel 2010 ha vinto la terza edizione del Taisho Manga Award con “Thermae Romae”. Nel 2015 ha ricevuto il premio Tezuka Osamu e il premio New Face del Ministero giapponese dell'Istruzione; dallo stesso Ministero ha ricevuto il Premio Cultura, Sport, Scienza e Tecnologia. Nel 2017 le è stato conferito dal Presidente della Repubblica italiano il grado di Commendatore dell'Ordine della Stella d'Italia.
Le sue ultime pubblicazioni sono: "Life without Borders" (Shogakukan), "Viola Mother" (Bunshu Shinsho), "Steve Jobs" (Kodansha, tratto da "Steve Jobs" di Walter Isaacson), "Gli Artigiani", "Plinius" ( Shinchosha, scritto insieme a Miki Tori), e "Olympia Cucross" (Shueisha). Il suo manga "Thermae Romae" è stato trasformato da Netflix in una serie animata distribuita dal 2022 in tutto il mondo.
È Visiting Professor all’università Zokei di Tokyo.
